The Role of Collaboration and Dialogue in Collaborative eLearning
Dr. Niki Lambropoulos, Sophi Danis Intelligenesis
In the recent years the real world and the educational world are merging their boundaries. Despite the extended research in this field, the eLearning results are still unpredictable. This indicates that systematic approaches for technology enhanced learning for quality assurance are absent. Because collaborative eLearning seems to be a promising approach, this chapter aims to investigate the role of collaboration and dialogue in collaborative eLearning and provide an analytical framework and a tool to observe, analyse, measure, reflect and act upon collaborative and dialogical revealed structures. In this way the proposed analytical frameworks can also function as quality indicators and indicative steps for improvement. An example of a case study and results are presented. The results stress the fact that the role of collaboration and dialogue is of extreme importance to support e-learning readiness; the e-learners’ prior knowledge and ability to interact; the change of teaching and learning approaches for different levels and types of interactions, participation, and critical thinking; the direct fit of the approaches used with the tools. If all components are present in an online course then e-learning quality can be ensured.
